spacer.gif (818 bytes)The Crystal Coast's championship courses await the golf enthusiast, and most of the area's exceptional club courses are open to the public. Courses are busy year round, and many Insiders consider fall the most favorable time to play. However, because of our temperate climate, you can play golf 365 days a year if you wish. It's best to call ahead, especially on weekends, to reserve tee times. Several local hostelries offer golf packages that include accommodations, meals, guaranteed starting times, greens fees and a few extras. Call the places listed in our Accommodations chapter and ask about special incentives for golfers.

Golfers who know about the Crystal Coast also know that it is one of the best golf bargains around. Off-season rates drop some greens fees to $15. Besides that, where they can, the courses take full advantage of the area's natural beauty. Many greens and tees offer glorious views of local waters and wildlife -- so the intrepid golfer gets a chance to experience a little something extra as the game unfolds.

Early 1998 saw the formation of the North Carolina Crystal Coast Regional Golf Association, Inc. Its aim is to promote golf in Carteret, Craven, Onslow, Jones and Pamlico counties. The group has put together a wealth of information about area golf courses and accommodations. Call (888) 991-PLAY for valuable help in planning the best of all possible golf vacations.

The courses we recommend here will bring you many enjoyable rounds of golf. Off-season rates, unless we note otherwise, refer to November 1 through March 31; seasonal rates are charged from April 1 to October 31. All fees are for 18 holes of play. We've also listed two local driving ranges at the end of the chapter.

For information on golf in the New Bern area, see our Golf chapter in the New Bern section.
