In almost every town or community throughout the county, there are clinics or specialized practices with one to a half-dozen doctors. It is not unusual, however, for routine appointments to be scheduled months in advance, although sickness and emergency cases are generally worked in. When moving to the Crystal Coast, it's best to arrive with a referral from your most recent doctor. Otherwise, as there is no medical referral service in Carteret County, ask a few Insiders for their recommendations and take the consensus. Home healthcare services help to bring people home earlier from surgeries, injuries and illnesses that have traditionally required hospital recoveries. A six-unit kidney dialysis unit able to serve 24 patients opened in early 1997 in Morehead City. The availability of these services continues to meet the healthcare needs of Crystal Coast residents. Alternative healthcare options available on the Crystal Coast enable and facilitate self-healing. Practitioners of a variety of holistic approaches to well-being address self-healing and the relief of pain in ways that include massage therapies, yoga and herbal remedies.
